Principal / Sr. Ob Gyn Sonographer Part-time ($10,000 sign-on bonus)

We’re hiring a part-time Sr. or Principal level Ob/Gyn Sonographer for our Prenatal Diagnosis Center. This position will perform ultrasound to demonstrate anatomy in fetuses of pregnant women. Participates in improvement activities in department. Maintains appropriate quality control records and participates in routine equipment testing and maintenance.
AREA OF EMPHASIS
- Perform sonography to determine normality of first and second trimester pregnancies.
- Provide after care instructions to patients undergoing prenatal diagnosis procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to produce quality images following established departmental protocols to include technique, views, positioning, proper labeling and patient ID.
- Properly prepares room and equipment prior to imaging and after completion of the exam.
- Properly troubleshoots equipment failures, documents and reports to appropriate individual.
- Prepares patient for imaging. Identifies self, explains the procedure and confirms patient ID and the order for testing.
- Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents and faculty.
- Meet physical requirements to perform all aspects of diagnostic sonography studies in the inpatient as well as outpatient settings, including but not limited to performing portable exams and assisting with transfer of transferring wheelchair patients
- Travels to satellite offices.

- Utilizes proper body mechanics to ensure patient safety upon moving and or transferring patients and equipment.
- Follows established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness.
- Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Remains current on patient safety to include electrical, mechanical, fire, safety, and disaster procedures.
- Provides excellent customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians, and other departments.
- Demonstrates service excellence by following the Everyday PRIDE Guide with the UCSF Medical Center standards and expectations for communication and behavior. Uses effective communication skills with patients and staff; demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette; acts as an escort to any patient or family member needing directions; shows sensitivity to differences of culture; demonstrates a positive and supportive manner in which patients / families/ colleagues perceive interactions as positive and supportive.
- Assures the work environment is clean and in compliance with infection control and environmental health and safety standards.
- Is a role model by maintaining a professional, neat appearance and adhering to the department dress code policy. Displays hospital identification badge.
C. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT.
- Demonstrates competency in the RGU database and Apex/Epic Health information systems
- Demonstrates competency on the related ultrasound equipment.
- Insures that clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested.
D. LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION
- Demonstrates the ability to work with minimal supervision.
E. DEVELOPMENT
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. Attends assigned staff development activities. .
- Participates in cross training activities when necessary.
- Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
- Attends professional meetings or seminars to keep current within the field of diagnostic imaging.
- Complies with the department expectations and standards.
F. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
- Participate in related performance improvement projects for the department and hospital.
- Attends required hospital training and in-services.
G. BUDGETARY
- Demonstrates effective use of time.
- Is conscientious regarding the use of supplies.
- Adheres to the productivity standards of the department.

Classification for Principal and Sr levels will be based on qualifications of incumbent:
Requirements for Sr Sonographer:
- Less than 5 years of experience in a high risk obstetric ultrasound service
- Require RDMS in OB/GYN
- NT certification through FMF or NTQR. May be hired without certification, but will be required to obtain it within 90 days of hire at employee’s expense.
Requirements for Principal Sonographer:
- At least 5 or more years of experience in a high risk obstetric ultrasound service
- Require RDMS in OB/GYN
- NT certification through FMF or NTQR.
